Never Forget: Say Their Names

They wanted our silence. And I was yesterday, first to protect my inner peace and then to honor the enormity of what we as a nation faced once again.

Tragedy.

Yesterday reminded us that grief is not far from us. The images, the news, the endless commentary—each headline carried the weight of lives stolen too soon, families torn apart, and hearts left shattered.

I carried a heavy heart this morning, and perhaps you did too. Maybe you woke up with tears ready to fall, or with the ache of numbness sitting in your chest. Maybe you’re angry. Maybe you’re weary. Whatever you feel—it is valid.

Sitting With the Weight of Loss

Tragedy forces us to pause. To feel. To remember that none of us are promised tomorrow.

And in those moments, silence can be holy. To stop. To honor. To breathe. To simply say: this is too much.

But silence is not where we are meant to stay. Healing—real healing—requires us to allow the pain to surface, to acknowledge what was lost, and to remember that we still have a life to live, a light to carry, and a hope to protect.

How We Begin to Heal

If your heart feels heavy, here are a few steps to gently ground yourself:

  • Allow your emotions to move through you. Cry, write, pray, or sit in stillness. Don’t stuff the pain.

  • Light a candle or whisper a prayer in memory of those lost. Rituals help anchor grief into meaning.

  • Connect with others who understand. Tragedy isolates, but healing begins in community.

  • Care for your body. Trauma isn’t only emotional—it lives in your nervous system. Rest, move gently, nourish yourself.

  • Return to God’s promises. His Word is an anchor when the world feels unsteady.

Healing Is Sacred Work

Healing isn’t rushed or forced. It is sacred and holy to go at a pace that allows your mind, body, and soul to embody the truth:

You are already enough. You are already worthy. You are already loved.
This truth doesn’t change because of tragedy. It is what holds us steady in tragedy.
